4 Simple Steps to Perfect Sonar

No tools, no experience needed. Anyone can set up the First Mate Fishing in minutes.

Step 1

Mount It Your way.

We designed the XT to fit your boat, not the other way around. Secure it using existing manual mounts, RAM mounts, or even custom DIY rigs like bike repair stands. If you have a mounting point, the XT will fit.

Step 2

Connect to Any 12V Source

Powering up is plug-and-play. Use the included 5.5×2.1mm cable to connect to your boat’s power or a portable ice battery. The motor is ultra-efficient, ensuring all-day runtime without draining your battery.

Step 3

Set Your Rotation Speed

Turn on the unit and use the manual speed dial to find your sweet spot. Whether you want a slow, detailed scan or a fast sweep, you set the pace before you cast.

Step 4

Take Wireless Control

Now you’re ready to fish. Use the wireless foot pedals to scan while you cast, or grab the handheld fob for precision control from anywhere on the boat.

Pro Tips

Get the Best Performance

Follow these tips from experienced anglers to maximize your First Mate Fishing experience.

Optimal Transducer Depth

Position your transducer 2-4 inches below the water surface for best performance. Avoid air bubbles near the transducer face.

Reduce Paddle Interference

When kayak fishing, mount on the opposite side from your dominant paddling hand to minimize splash interference.

Secure Your Setup

Always use the included safety tether when fishing in rough water or currents to prevent accidental loss.

What Anglers Are Saying

A smiling angler in a blue fishing outfit holds up four large bass, two in each hand, by a lakeside with docks, boats, and trees in the background on a sunny day.

Robbie " Goose" Hernderson

2x Illinois State High School Bass Fishing Champion

I really love my First Mate XT and how it is connected to the foot pedal because I can see a fish in live scope and once I hook it I can use the foot pedal and I will start looking for more fish when I am reeling in the one I hooked it has been a huge game changer for me and my live scope.

A man wearing glasses and a jacket stands on a boat at night, holding up a large fish by its mouth with his right hand. The fish is illuminated by bright light, highlighting its scales.

Mike McKnight

Rocky Mount, VA

I’ve been running the First Mate XT since the very beginning, and I swear by it. It is hands down the best addition I’ve made to my boat. The versatility is unmatched—I actually used a simple bike repair mount to rig mine up, and it holds rock solid. If you are looking for a motorized pole that just works, buy this.

Steve Heaton

Fishing Enthusiast

I’ve tried manual poles, but the motorized control on the XT is on another level. Being able to tap a button and sweep the transducer while my hands are busy with the rod has put more fish on the ice for me this season. Smooth, quiet, and tough.
